Space Toys
During the Cold War and the space race between the United States and the Soviet Union, a fascination with space arose. Space toys had their heyday during the Cold War, especially in the USA and the Soviet Union.
However, Sweden did not want to be inferior and also produced space toys. You can find an example in the middle window in the yellow globe where you see a rocket from the Swedish company BAPRO. Unfortunately, there was no further success for the Swedish space toy.
Something that became a huge success and that fit well into the spirit of the times was Star Wars, which was launched in 1977. When Star Wars was launched, the MEGO corporation failed to secure the intellectual property, which instead was taken by a company named Kenner. Kenner began to make figures in the dimensions of 3.75 inches due to the then prevailing oil crisis. Plastic was expensive. This measure later became standard. The previous standard on action figures was 11.5 inches. This is a good example of how toys can be affected by current challenges.
You can also watch our film inside the space globe!
